I started writing blogs so that I could tell people about my book, “Out of the Lion’s Den.” I created a Facebook author page, which is @susanmatternauthor and went on Instagram (as mattern.susan) for the same reason.

My blogs have actually been so much fun to write that I’ve gotten far afield from my book’s original messages of overcoming trauma and becoming an atheist. The blogs are covering everything from my father’s stories as an immigrant to this country, ramblings about Scottish food, Donovan songs, the lack of rain in Southern California, to our family travels and beautiful weddings.

I hope you will read and enjoy the blogs, but please don’t forget to go to my website http://outofthelionsden.net/ and read my book!

“Out of the Lion’s Den” is the story about my daughter’s almost-fatal mountain lion attack years ago, my “conversion” from Catholic nun to atheist, and our six-year lawsuit against Orange County. I won’t tell you who won. You can probably guess, though.

I hope to write many more blogs about the great people I’ve been privileged to meet, the legal system, immigration, along with dealing with trauma, and also my love of music. I’ll be writing about forgiveness and gardens, my frustration with technology and computers, friendship, and finding unexpected destinations in every journey we take.

I’m also publishing a more light-hearted book about my six years in the convent. It is tentatively called “Kicking the Habit.” You don’t have to be Catholic to appreciate the exploits of thirty teenage girls in a strict German order with ridiculous and outdated rules.

I think that with all our political polarization and nasty discourse, we can all use some light-hearted reading right now.

I’ve been, and still am, happily married for 44 years to a wonderful man. We have two adult children, one golden retriever and two tuxedo cats. I would like to make lots of friends and hope to communicate a little with all of you on Facebook and Instagram. I hope you enjoy the blogs and my book (https://amzn.to/2PGNO65). Thank you, thank you to everyone who is following me. I appreciate all the amazing people who have come into my life since I published my book.
